CIS connects clients by Analoge Dialup and ADSL, we are also able to provide ISDN and Leased Line connectivity, though there is little demand for these now.
CIS is one of few ISPs who are final points of authentication for Telkom/SAIX ADSL ports. This means we are able to offer an unprecendented level of service - up to the minute diagnostic and usage information - to anyone who has a Telkom/SAIX ADSL Line.
We currently provide a pay-for-what-you-use service with no hard limits. This is essential for anyone depending on internet connectivity. CIS clients do not subsidise others. You only pay for what you use. To prevent unexpected bills you can set up notification limits in our Control Panel to send SMS and/or email alerts when a usage threshold has been reached. We are able to offer ADSL password changes and remote disconnections from the control panel too.
ADSL (access only, other services are charged for seperately) is available at R85/GB/month, payable via Debit Order or at discounted rate of R70/GB/month for clients who contract for significant other services also.
Want a Static ADSL IP for free? CIS offers a unique DNS service that provides a dynamically updated A record that points to your ADSL IP address. There is no additional cost for this, nor does it require any configuration on your PC. It is completely independant of your operating system and is as reliable as any dynamic DNS provider
Some clients use this facility to host their own websites (or part of their websites) - it can also be used to 'find' your ADSL connected server for VPN connectivity. You can create a CNAME entry in any domain to mask this functionality from your clients - effectively the world will think you have a static IP.
CIS maintains it's own pools of analoge modems.
Dialup access costs R88pm (with a free email address), or R880pa if paid annually in advance
CIS hosts websites and offers various email hosting solutions. We maintain 2 sets of infrastructure, our main site in East London, South Africa and backup equipment in Blue Square, Maidenhead (near London in the United Kingdom).
Our current infrastructure allows us to route up to 2Mb/s onto SAIX's backbone from East London, or up to 100Mb/s burst into LINX from London. Whatever your web hosting requirements we will be able to meet them.
All our webservers run Apache 2.0 or 2.2, we offer suexec for CGI security and use numerous methods to ensure our mod_php is as secure as possible.
Charges for hosting a commercial website start at R150pm.
CIS is able to offer a number of solutions, all of which use our (proven)*1 anti-spam solution developed and refined over the last 5 years using mainly open source technologies.
Spam/Virus/Malware filtering by the ISP eliminates spam messages flooding the user's inbox and prevents all that traffic going over our clients' internet connection.
Every 10 spam messages we prevent getting to you saves around 1c. With the current spam:email ratio this translates to a saving of 1c for every 2 valid emails of actual cost of bandwidth, this doesn't include the cost of anti-spam, anti-virus software, and the hassle and cost of keeping these up-to-date.
This tends to be the norm. Your email is received by our server and stored until you ask for it. This solution is more advisable the smaller your staff and the less email you receive. A POP3 mailbox is included in our dialup connection and is available to ADSL customers at R50pm.
You will need to dedicate a PC to act as a server (specification depends on your needs) and permanent (most likely ADSL) internet access as well as your own internet domain. The advantages of this are:
This solution should be considered when you have 5 users, and is easily justifiable after 8 users.
We have recently launched a solution that fits in between the 2 mentioned above. You will not need an onsite server, rather accounts will be stored in and authenticated from an LDAP directory for your domain.
Most service providers either use a 3rd party for email clensing (leaving them no direct control over what is included/excluded or how it's done) or attempt to do it themselves using one or more paradigms/technologies. CIS uses 8 rejection systems spread over 4 paradigms/technologies. Our solution is used in over 30 domains containing thousands of email addresses jointly receiving over 12000 emails per day.
