There are situations where CIS will reject inbound email. (See below). If we have rejected an email for delivery this is clearly communicated to the sender. CIS requires the information in that communication to investigate causes of non-delivery.
If no such indication of failure is received by the sender they should contact their ISP for assistance in determining where the problem lies.
All web traffic though our main router is transparently proxied to our local proxy cache server (wwwproxy.cis.za.net:3128).
This is in-line with currently accepted best practice with in the SA ISP industry. CIS's Proxy/cache is part of a hierarcy.
ADSL Clients are transparently proxied via Telkom/SAIX's ADSL cache appliance.
Our mail transport is Sendmail, this interfaces with Clamscan and Apache's Spam Assassin using MIME Defang from Roaring Penguin Software Inc.
Do you have a complaint about email that is being reject by our mail server?
CIS's mail relay server attempts to reject email that is unsolicited email or SPAM, or email that contains a known virus OR has multiple recipients.
We make use of the following software and/or services to accomplish these aims:
to report spam and
block relay attempts from hosts in it's dns-based black list. If you are
receiving spam, please consider signing up as a 'spamcop'
to report spam and black list spammers.
We also use these block lists:
and
and the
software from Apache.
If you feel you NEED like to respond to spammers, this sample message is suggested by http://www.internet.org.za/ cites the relevant portion of the ECT ACT. CIS does not necessarily endorse it's use.
All emails relayed via CIS primary mail server mail.eln.co.za will be scanned for viruses before delivery. This scan is made during the SMTP transaction, any rejection will take place at that level.
To prevent mass mailling abuse of our mail relay we are limiting the number of recipients for each message to 10 from midnight 0:00 2003/06/11. If you have a need for mass mailling please contact us.
